Social empowerment with a passion for football

Safe Hub is a social project that creates a safe space for young people to interact and grow with each other at several locations globally through various football-related programmes. It is organized by the non-governmental organization AMANDLA.

For the new Safe Hub project in Berlin-Wedding, Amandla has commissioned Benz & Ziegler with a sports facility that includes a large new building on Schulstrasse and Ruheplatzstrasse. The building is made up of two intertwined elements that make up the Safe Hub symbol - two interlocking hands. The glass and semi-permeable wooden facades stand for transparency and the openness of the project as a meeting point for all football enthusiasts.

Architecture opens a dialogue between young people and the urban community

Functionally, the building is divided into three areas: Community spaces for sports activities, art projects and a training café, which are accessible to the entire community living in the area, are being created on the ground floor. On the upper floor, a semi-public area offers socially disadvantaged children rooms for education and workshops as well as for sports and relaxation. Offices for the administration of Amandla and another socially committed institution are planned on the top two floors.

The project is funded by the Oliver Kahn Foundation.
